About the hotline

The Labour Standards Advice Hotline is a telephone consultation service provided by advisors with expertise in issues related to labour standards laws and regulations, such as illegal overtime work, health problems caused by overwork, and unpaid overtime work. The service not only includes consultations that offer advice and information based on applicable laws, regulations, and past court cases, but also introductions to related organizations and institutions. Tokyo Legal Mind K.K. was commissioned by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to offer this service on a consultation basis only, and will not issue guidance or recommendations to employers. It is free for both employers and employees and accessible by phone from anywhere in Japan. Consultations can be anonymous.

• A service commissioned by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare

  In 2023, this service is provided by Tokyo Legal Mind K.K. and commissioned by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. It is only available when the Labour Standards Inspection Office is closed at nighttime on weekdays, and in the daytime and nighttime on Saturdays, Sundays and National Holidays.

• A service to answer questions and help reduce concerns and anxiety

  This is a service that provides advice on issues related to labour standards laws and regulations, such as management of working hours, payment of extra wages, and the safety and hygiene of workplaces. It offers various kinds of information, including advice based on applicable laws, regulations, and past court cases, answers questions and helps reduce concerns and anxiety.

• A service that can introduce contact information for specific problems

  This service can also provide contact information for those who specialize in consultations on abuse and harassment in certain areas, such as sexual, power and maternity harassment at work.

• A toll-free service for everyone

  This is a toll-free service accessible from anywhere in Japan on both landlines and mobile phones.

13 languages are available on the Labour Standards Advice Hotline: Japanese, English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Burmese, Nepalese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, Cambodian (Khmer), and Mongolian.

The Labour Standards Advice Hotline is a commissioned service entrusted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. The hotline offers free general advice on working conditions from anywhere in Japan during the hours when the Prefectural Labour Bureaus and Labour Standards Inspection Offices are closed or in weekends and holidays. Foreign language support is also available.
